"Firstly I would like to thank everyone for the many messages of support I have received since the news of my injury.
"It's been two weeks since my operation and for the first time this week I took a couple of steps without crutches! It doesn't seem that much in the grand scale of things but it is a huge step forward for me in my rehabilitation and my first target crossed off. It was a great feeling. My next focus is to get my quad and hamstring muscles stronger before I banish the crutches for good.
"This week I also got to meet Zoe, a young gymnast from Kettering Gymnastics club who was the lucky winner of a competition run by my sponsors Opus Energy ahead of the European Championships.
"I went along to the club in Kettering and spent the morning chatting and giving some advice to Zoe and her club mates, which I hope will be useful in their gymnastics careers. The club is really well run by head coach Marie and I was very impressed with the facilities and heritage at the club. Kettering gymnastics club have already produced some very high level gymnasts and I am sure the current crop of gymnasts will be following in their footsteps.
"Over the next couple of weeks I still need to take it easy, but it won't stop me working on my upper body conditioning and improving my strength moves on Rings; this was always one of my lowest scoring apparatus.
"Its early days and I still have a long rehabilitation programme to work through but I am feeling really positive and confident that I will return even fitter and stronger."
Thanks
Dan
