Aged nine, Daniel Keatings competed in his first British NDP championships winning gold. After an excellent first British NDP championship Daniel moved to the Junior British Gymnastic Squad.
2002Aged twelve, Daniel Keatings represented Great Britain (GB) in the Pennsylvania International Gymnastic Competition finishing second.
2006Daniel represented Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in Australia but unfortunately suffered a back injury which saw him withdraw from the competition. The injury continued to plague Daniel for the following twelve months which he calls the lowest point of his career.
2007Throughout 2007 Daniel put his injury problems behind him and made steady, solid improvements throughout the year:
Aged eighteen, Daniel Keatings competed for the GB Gymnastic Team in the Junior European Championship in Switzerland. This was his most successful competition to date and a historic result for the GB Gymnastic Team. Daniel won four gold and one bronze medal including the coveted All Around and team titles, something that has never before been achieved by a British gymnast or team.
Later in 2008 Daniel achieved his ultimate dream to be selected to represent GB in the Olympic Games in Beijing, he qualified for the All Around final finishing 20th and narrowly missing the Pommel Horse final finishing 9th.
2009In April this year Daniel Keatings entered the Senior European Championships in Milan, where he won a silver medal in the All Around final, Britain's first ever All Around medal in a major championships and a bronze on the Pommel Horse at the World Cup Event in Glasgow 2009.
In September 2009 Daniel made history at the World Championships in London, winning Britain's first ever silver medal in the men's All Around final.
2010His 2010 season got off to a flying start too, by taking Britain's first ever gold medal at a major championships, he claimed gold on the Pommel Horse at the European Championship in Birmingham. He was also part of Team GB who claimed their first ever medal as a team taking Silver behind Germany.
Unfortunately in May, shortly after medal success at the European Championships he sustained a small tear to his anterior cruciate ligament which has seen him out of major competitions this year and in a nine month rehabilitation programme to get him back to fitness. 2011Daniel's competitive career got back on track in the early part of 2011, after almost 12 months out with his torn cruciate ligament. Despite his recovery Daniel was still not quite fit enough to compete at the Berlin European Championships, and defend his Pommel Horse title.
Daniel earned a wildcard entry to the Glasgow World Cup and placed fourth in the All Around event, against a field of the top eight finishers in the 2010 World Gymnastics Championships. His training was still paying off in July, when Team GB took the bronze medal ahead of China in the prestigious Japan Cup competition in Tokyo.
Unfortunately, at the Tokyo World Championship Finals in October, the team narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Olympics. A month later, Dan was ruled out of the Stuttgart Grand Prix in Germany due to an injury to his fingers.
Dan's focus for the New Year will be on the Olympic test event in January.
